🏄‍♀️ Defi Summer is ramping up: key indicators and the next anticipated “[alt]-szn”

Small Bitez

  • Uniswap founder Hayden Adams tweeted out another milestone: weekly trading volume on Uniswap has passed $10B, giving the centralized Coinbase—who had previously reported their own record trading volume—a run for its (digital) money

  • Been dreaming about going to the Louvre for a year now? Well, you might be in luck. Vaccinated American tourists may soon be able to travel to Europe this summer, an EU spokesperson told the New York Times. The exact dates are still TBD.

  • It’s been a while since the moon has done something cool right? Tonight, Earth’s pet rock is ready to entertain us once again. This year’s only “Pink Supermoon” will be at its brightest and biggest in the sky tonight around 8:30 PM PDT (14% larger and 30% brighter to be specific).

  • NASA’s Mars helicopter Ingenuity broke a personal record in distance and speed in its third flight, clocking in at 4.5 MPH at a distance of 164 feet. With two flights left, the world has its eyes on the little Martian helicopter that could.

Eminem Drops Collection of NFTs

Today Eminem drops a line of NFT collectibles that (so far) includes action figures, trading cards and exclusive beats produced by Em himself. In what he’s calling “Shady Con” Eminem will auction off the limited edition NFT’s, as well as a special 1 of 1 NFT that will include physical items. The auction begins at 6:30 ET on NFT marketplace Nifty Gateway.

I’ve been collecting since I was a kid, everything from comic books to baseball cards to toys, as well as every rap album on cassette I could get my hands on,” said Eminem.  “Not much has changed for me as an adult…I’ve attempted to re-create some of those collections from that time in my life, and I know I’m not alone.  I wanted to give this drop the same vibe of, ‘Oh, man I gotta get just that one or maybe even the whole set!’  It’s been a lot of fun coming up with ideas from my own collecting passion.

The news arrives just days after Eminem tweeted his reaction to an SNL skit that parodied his “Without Me” video while attempting to explain NFT’s. Was he in on it?

Coal, Cowboys, and …Crypto?

Wyoming is perhaps best known as the state where no one actually lives, but the state seems to have a few tricks up its sleeve. “The Equality State” was the first state to grant women the right to vote back in 1869 (to increase the voting population enough to meet the minimum for becoming a state, but still). More recently though, Wyoming was the inventor of the LLC as we now know it.

Even more recently, state leaders have been hard at work in the crypto law space. The state’s status as the most crypto-friendly jurisdiction in the US has already attracted big names like Kraken, Cardano, and Ripple, who have all moved their headquarters’ to Wyoming’s capital city, Cheyenne.

Now, Wyoming has decided DAOs will be recognized as LLCs, as long as they domicile in the state. This begs the question, “How can a decentralized organization live in a state?” Well, through a registered agent, whatever that eventually ends up legally meaning.

What’s the Season This Time? Solana Szn.

If you don’t know who this guy is, you’re about to find out. His name is Sam Bankman-Fried and he is the Founder/CEO of cryptocurrency exchange FTX, an exchange that promises to disrupt the industry with the latest innovations (tokenized stocks and prediction markets anyone?) Sam wants to use his FTX platform (we briefly mentioned FTX in our Quick Bite about Miami) to solve the issues he perceives with the Etherium network, as well as other “Eth-Killers”:

It is a combination of people being fed up with gas fees and comparisons on decentralization with other major non-Ethereum blockchains.

That’s why (after auditing about 30 other fast blockchains) he’s partnered with Solana, a blockchain technology that is blazing fast (up to 65,000 transactions per second!) as well as scalable and secure. But the aim is not to replace Ethereum, but to work alongside it to grow both.

Adam Cochran breaks it down with a killer thread:

SOL was virtually immune to the effects of the recent big dip, surging 30% up to almost $33, and as of this writing sits at almost $47, for an additional 40% gain.

It looks like the beginning of a beautiful $SOL szn!
